Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love
Though by conventional standards their marriage was tumultuous and rife with drug use, Cobain is quoted as saying, "I'm married and I'm more attracted to Courtney than I ever have been toward a person."

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love

1991-1994

Before Courtney Love's current career as a tabloid-attracting car wreck, she was better known as the front woman of actually-quite-good grunge outfit Hole and most infamously, the partner of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Possessing both the enigmatic chemistry of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's relationship and the manic drug-fuelled downward spiral of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen, Kurt and Courtney's relationship was both inspired and desperately tragic.

The pair met at a concert in 1991 just as Nirvana were being catapulted from obscurity to multi-platinum megastar status and married a year later when Courtney became pregnant with their daughter, Francis Bean.

Though Kurt and Courtney seemed to stimulate musical creativity in each other (Kurt is rumoured to have given a helping hand with the song writing of Hole's excellent Live Through This album, while Courtney inspired the twisted Nirvana classic 'Heart Shaped Box'), off the stage and out of the studio their life was a mess.

Love was accused of using heroin during her pregnancy and Cobain's drug problem swung out of control as he tried to cope with fame and a chronic stomach ulcer. Then Cobain had an unsuccessful suicide attempt in Europe and back home in Seattle was cautioned by police after Love called them when the couple had a domestic dispute. Finally, after checking out of rehab and with Courtney busy promoting the upcoming Hole album, Cobain shot himself dead at his own home on April 8, 1994.

Though by conventional standards their marriage was tumultuous and rife with drug use, Cobain is quoted as saying, "I'm married and I'm more attracted to Courtney than I ever have been toward a person."

In the eyes of many Nirvana fans, Courtney was Yoko to Kurt's Lennon, but while Lennon's fans may have resented Yoko, they never blamed her for his death. This was not the case with Love, who in the years after Kurt's death has suffered abuse and accusations from fans who thought she, directly or indirectly, killed her husband. Fellow musicians have also been on the anti-Courtney crusade. Former Nirvana member Dave Grohl is openly hostile to her and the Tori Amos song 'Professional Widow' is rumoured to be about her as well.

WATCH: Taylor Swift disses her record label: 'If I brought out an album full of whale noises they'd release it' MusicFIX Blog by Carmarlena Murdaca Oct 22 2014 9:32AM

We truly hope Taylor Swift's not making the shift from break-up songs to sea life tunes.

Talking to The Project last night, 24-year-old Taylor revealed why she has little trust for her label... and it bizarrely has something to do with a bunch of whale noises. Check out the interview above!

Down Under to promote new album 1989, TheFIX have deemed T-Swizzle the interview queen of Oz… especially after the pop star called commentators sexist for judging her love life.

She told 2DayFM's Jules, Merrick and Sophie: "No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They're all writing about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.

"You’re going to have people who are going to see the depth from which you approached a song. The fact that you put your real emotions into it and that's valuable and that's good and that’s real and then you're going to have people who are going to say, 'oh you know, like, she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends,' and I think frankly that's just a very sexist angle to take."

Taylor -1, the rest of the world – 0.

Nicki Minaj explains controversial 'Anaconda' video: 'Girls love being with other girls' MusicFIX Blog by Claire Knight Oct 21 2014 11:40AM Nicki Minaj doesn't understand what all the fuss is about over her bootylicious 'Anaconda' video.

Besides the obvious "Oh my gawd… look at huhhh butt!" moments (and by moments, we mean the whole thing!), the rapper told GQ magazine that she is baffled by the controversy her clip has created.

"I don't know what there is to really talk about," she told the mag. "I'm being serious. I just see the video as being a normal video."

Hmm… clearly Nicki has her very own definition of "normal".

"I think the video is about what girls do," she continued. "Girls love being with other girls, and when you go back to us being younger, we would have slumber parties and we'd be dancing with our friends."

Instead of objectifying women, the 31-year-old rapper believes that 'Anaconda' is about female empowerment and reclaiming control over sexualisation.

"It's just cheeky, like a funny story. I'm chopping up the banana… Did you realize that? At first I'm being sexual with the banana, and then it's like, 'Ha-ha, no'… That was important for us to show in the kitchen scene, because it's always about the female taking back the power," she explained.

"If you want to be flirty and funny that's fine, but always keeping the power and the control in everything."

Previously known for her colourful wigs and cartoon-like costumes, Nicki revealed that her recent image change was also a strategic move.

"I always thought that by the time I put out a third album, I would want to come back to natural hair and natural makeup. I thought, I will shock the world again and just be more toned down. I thought that would be more shocking than to keep on doing exactly what they had already seen."
