Has John Mayer finally penned a comeback at Taylor Swift for her 2010 song about their break-up, 'Dear John'?
The answer seems to be in the affirmative, given the evidence in the just-released lyric video for his new song about an apparent past love, 'Paper Doll'. Listen closely in the video above!
Here are the telling lyrics in question:
The line: "You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from/ Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?"
Ummm, hello, reference to Taylor's hit song '22'! Plus, he's calling her "little", which implies not only shorter than him, but younger: Taylor was 19 at the time they dated in 2009 — John was 31.
The line: "Cut the chord and pull some strings/ And make yourself some angel wings/ And if those angel wings don't fly/ Someone's gonna paint you another sky."
Like, totally John hitting back at Taylor's 'Dear John' line: "You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain." Plus, could those chords he's singing about be guitar chords, hmm?
The line: "Here's a dress of gold and blue/ Sure was fun being good to you".
Okay, this is a bit tenuous, but Taylor refers to herself as "The girl in the dress" in 'Dear John'. Coincidence?
