Ana Matronic, the feisty frontwoman of dirty disco band Scissor Sisters chatted with TheFIX about the band's new single, her work as Jessie J’s adviser on The Voice UK, and Australia's debate on gay marriage.

Scissor Sisters’ latest offering is the dance-pop gem 'Only The Horses', co-produced by Calvin Harris, who inspired the band with the way he moved the crowd at this year's Field Day.

"He is really great at what I like to call the 'rave cliff' where he's bringing the energy up ... and then it explodes. We definitely wanted that energy in 'Only The Horses'," Ana said. "He made it magic."

While preparing the new album Magic Hour, Ana recently appeared as an adviser to Jessie J on The Voice UK. Although Jessie J has had a relatively short career in comparison to Ana's, Ana was blown away by the young songstress.

"She was really great with her artists, mentoring them and guiding them. She's someone who has experience beyond her youth."

The Voice has been a target of criticism once contestants hit the battle rounds, some viewers feeling that it becomes far more about the contestant's looks than their vocal talent.

Ana said that although there must be a visual component to performances, you don’t need to be good looking to win. "In my opinion the best performers are the ones who, when you listen to the words they're saying, you believe them," she told us.

Ana also weighed in on Australia's gay marriage debate, Scissor Sisters being big advocates for equal rights and having a huge LGBTI fanbase.

In an appeal to Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Ana made a clear argument to anyone who was on the fence of the gay marriage debate.

"My message to her as it would be to anybody ... is that this is not an issue that is vying to take away anyone's rights," Ana said.

"Gay people are not here to convert your children and they're not here to invade your churches."

"It's a simple protection of love. It's nothing to be afraid of."
