fun. was the name decided on after much deliberation by the band.
"We could think of a million things and didn't like any of them," says keyboardist Andrew.
"One of those things was 'ice cream'. So we thought 'There's something there but we can't call the band 'Ice Cream' cause that's stupid. But it made us think of 'fun'."
"So we thought, 'Nobody doesn't like ice cream so therefore nobody won't like our band'."
We like your logic, guys!
fun. rose to fame late last year with their song 'We Are Young' after it appeared on Glee a pretty unorthodox move for the show.
"Glee typically doesn't do songs that aren't already big hit songs," Andrew says.
"I think it really says a lot for Glee in general that they really wanna push the envelope and they want people to be aware of new music."
Although Glee has helped propel the band's success, will the wider fan base now change the band’s artistic output?
"I don't know, I wanna say no but I can't really predict it," says Andrew. "Any time you write with an audience in mind, I think that can be a negative thing."
"But I also know … we can't help but be impacted by that somehow."
fun. will be gracing the Splendour In The Grass stage in July, sharing the line-up with Jack White, Gossip, Kimbra and Azealia Banks.
"That's the best part of going to a festival," says Andrew. "I know I'm going to be able to see at least five or ten bands that I've been dying to see all at the same place."
And his plans for Australia?
"I want to hit some beaches … there are so many stereotypical Australian things … I wanna see a kangaroo, I wanna see the Opera House and I wanna throw a boomerang," he said.
"I hear Vegemite is not tasty, but I want to try it."
Just don't let anyone offer it to you on a spoon, Andrew. It's a cruel trick that's been pulled on many a foreign visitor. Remember: Vegemite needs toast!
