Don't cry for me, Australia: Madonna has ditched plans for her first local tour in 20 years.

The pop icon cancelled the Australian leg of her MDNA world tour for unspecified reasons overnight.

Aussie fans have braced for Her Madgesty's arrival since her management teased it earlier this year.

"Madonna really needs to go to Australia," her manager Guy Oseary said.

"We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen."

Well, apparently not.

While Live Nation Australia have not commented beyond confirming the cancellation, rival promoters have suggested the show was unviable due to high ticket costs and a crowded summer tour market.
