One Direction settle legal dispute with other One Direction, will keep their name

Popular British boy band One Direction has settled a legal dispute with an American group of the same name, allowing them both to continue to perform as One Direction.

One Direction (US), a punk group based in California, sued the 'What Makes You Beautiful' hitmakers for US$1million earlier this year, claiming they had been using the name since 2009, one year before the British band formed.

Haven't heard of them? Well, they only play at local fairs and bars, and that was enough for Simon Cowell to countersue them for trying to cash-in on his band's massive success.

While the details of the settlement are not yet known, both bands are said to be satisfied by the outcome, issuing a statement to announce the amicable end of the trademark dispute.

"All of the parties involved are pleased with the resolution and wish each other success," it read.
