TheFIX chatted with the 16-year-old songstress, real name Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, to find out more about the girl everyone's calling "the new Adele".
"It was amazing, it was just so sudden as well," Birdy says of her overnight success.
"And it's been so much fun because I've got to come out here and the reaction has been so good."
With a highly successful music career overseas, Birdy came to our attention after The X Factor Australia contestant Bella Ferraro performed Birdy's cover of American folk band Bon Iver's song 'Skinny Love'.
"I thought Bella was really good," Birdy tells TheFIX. "She's got a beautiful voice."
Fans speculate widely about the meaning of 'Skinny Love' is it about a relationship petering out? Is it about a real-life skinny lover? We asked Birdy how she interprets the lyrics and it's something of a mystery to her too.
"When I'm singing it, I'm not really sure of the actual meaning of the song," she admits.
"But … to me it feels it's like a break-up, people who really love each other but having to move on then."
"For me, it's more about the melody and the music," she adds.
While her current album is selling like hotcakes, Birdy assures fans an album of original songs is due out mid-2013.
"I'm starting to get all my songs together and [will] hopefully start to record soon," she says.
In the meantime, Birdy juggles schoolwork, touring, and meeting the odd One Direction member along the way.
"I love [One Direction's] music," she tell us.
Any favourite member of the British boy band?
"I met Harry Styles at a concert that I did. He was really nice!" she laughs.
Birdy's album Birdy is out now.
