One Direction's Zayn Malik has done the unthinkable by replacing his divisive, dare we say iconic, ice-cream swirl hair with a grungy, all-over-the-place emo bob.

Debuting the 'do on press duties in Japan over the past few days, the 20-year-old heart-throb showed his choppier cut, though still not as untamed as Harry "bed hair" Styles' majestic mane (view below).

Zayn appears to be emulating Bieber's transition-from-boy-to-man post-moptop hairstyle of 2011. Or is it more Halle Berry?

Zayn's hair isn't his only body part currently making headlines. On Friday, he made a dramatic exit from a 1D press conference in Tokyo, rushing off stage sick after just 20 minutes. Watch his bandmates' reactions below ... awww, isn't Niall just the sweetest?

According to a source from UK rag The Mirror, Niall checked with management to see if his mate was alright, while Zayn returned to their hotel "to recover". So why was he sick?

The Mirror's source believes that the boys had a big night on their first night ever in Japan.

"They made the most of the local drinks to get over their jet lag, but were suffering during the press conference," the source said.
