"Poptroversy". That's the new word I've just coined to describe the pop controversy brewing around Kelly Clarkson, who's been accused of ripping off fellow music heavyweight Beyonce.
So you might have noticed that the beat of Kelly's new track 'Already Gone' sounds an awful lot like Beyonce's recent hit 'Halo'. But it's not a case of pop plagiarism ("popgiarism", I call it) Kelly reckons it's the fault of her music producer Ryan Tedder, who co-produced both songs.
"No-one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinking 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to'. No, they're just gonna be saying I ripped someone off," Kelly griped to CBC News.
Kelly says she "fought and fought" to stop the release of 'Already Gone', but that the decision was out of her hands.
"At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with [the song]," she said. "It's kind of a sh*tty situation, but... You know, you learn."
Compare the two songs for yourself in the full post.
