Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson tapped for American Music Awards Here's hoping that Kanye West won't be around if Taylor Swift is lucky enough to win an American Music Award...

The starlet has been nominated for six AMAs (more than any other artist), including favourite female artist, favourite album and artist of the year. Michael Jackson was close behind with five nominations: the dearly departed King of Pop was tapped for awards including favourite male artist and artist of the year, putting him head-to-head with Taylor.

Australian Idol: Top 7 - Big Band Remember when Kyle Sandilands was still a judge on this show, and he'd always complain that he hated big band night? Aah, memories. (Or am I getting mixed up, and he actually loved big band night? Nah... I'm pretty sure he hated it.) The show kicks off with a rendition of '(I Could Only] Whisper Your Name', which seems like such a boringly obvious choice for the groutine given that tonight's guest judge is Harry Connick Jr, aka, "That Guy From the Hey Hey Controversy". I hope Harry isn't feeling too embarrassed, given the performance is distinctly lacklustre.

Andrew G — once again going by Andrew Gunsberg — introduces guest musician and all-round jazz legend James Morrison, who's joined the Idol band tonight, before getting on with the elimination. The bottom three consists of Scott (deserved), Nathan (not that surprising), and... JAMES?! AGAIN?!?! Pardon me while I go and set myself on fire in protest.

I return to discover that James is, thankfully, safe: it's Scott going home. (If it'd been the other way around, I would've been totally homicidal for about three seconds then forgot about it, probably.) About time, really. Scott's total lack of experience has really dragged the show down for the last couple of weeks.

MusicFIX's verdict on all tonight's singers in the full post!

New video: it's all about Hugh Sheridan MusicFIX Blog by Sam Nov 20 2009 2:29PM Off the heels of his debut 'Just Can't Throw Us Away' comes Hugh Sheridan's follow-up 'All About Me' — and MusicFIX is giving you the first look at the new song.

We gotta say: Hugh's is looking pretty fine in the clip, which dumps him in the desert (in trendy aviator sunnies) where he's rescued/stalked by a woman I can only assume is a massive Packed to the Rafters fan.

Keep an eye out for the blink-and-you'll-miss-it shirtlessness:

'All About Me' is from Hugh's album Speak Love, which releases on November 27.

Music Review: Foo Fighters & Robbie Williams MusicFIX Blog by Jade Nov 19 2009 3:11PM

Single review: Robbie Williams - Bodies

Robbie's appeal lies in the chorus. 'Rock DJ', 'Let Me Entertain You', 'Angels' - a verse is just a means to a middle for Mr. Williams. His last album lost the chorus and truckloads of fans along the way.

Bodies the new single off of his seventh album 'Reality Killed the Video Star' was a perfect choice to piggyback a comeback on. The fuzzy guitars and synth beats do a damn fine job of building interest till we reach the main event and Robbie's voice bursts through, bringing with it the memory of just how catchy and fun he can be.

Admittedly the choir and the string section are a little naff and it's definitely no monster hit like 'Rock DJ'. Still it is a pretty slice of pop pleasure from someone who unlike 'Take That' you aren't embarrassed to admit you listen too. You will like it if: You're in need of a new karaoke tune.

Album review: Foo Fighters – Greatest Hits

The Foo's are the gateway band for the next generation (not sure what letter of the alphabet that is). They are the band every 13 year old first turns too when they are on the cusp of realising there is more to music than the Top 40. Easy listening with just enough edge and cred to ease the transition into some harder sounding stuff.

Everyone remembers their first, it always maintains a slight rosy coloured special sheen, and it's why a decade later grown up kids get misty eyed when 'Monkey Wrench' suddenly appears on a shuffle playlist. It's why record companies are cynically smart enough to release a Greatest Hits album just before stockings must be stuffed in time for Christmas.

While the obligatory two new songs tacked on the end - 'Wheels' and 'Word Forward' won't make it to 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2', the CD serves its purpose as you find yourself discovering or dusting off their old albums.

Video: Ministry of Sound's raunchy new tune MusicFIX Blog by Sam Nov 18 2009 4:01PM Aah, another Ministry of Sound song, another raunchy video clip.

Titled 'aNYway', the track is by Ducksauce and appears to be influenced by the Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore classic Ghost — if Ghost was, like, 100 times sexier. (I don't recall Patrick slipping his hand inside Demi's bra in the movie. Or the two of them crafting a huge penis-shaped thing out of clay. Hmmm...)

Check out the clip right here:
