Grammys 2012: Adele wins six awards, Whitney Houston remembered MusicFIX Blog by MusicFIX Feb 13 2012 5:06PM This year's Grammys may have been overshadowed by sadness following the sudden death of pop legend Whitney Houston, but it didn't stop Adele from quietly becoming the woman of the night.

The British singer won six Grammys - basically everything she was nominated for - including song and record of the year for 'Rolling in the Deep,' and album of the year for 21.

Thanking “the doctors who brought my voice back,” she marked her triumphant return to the stage following throat surgery with a stirring rendition of 'Rolling In The Deep'.

Whitney tributes were aplenty, with Grammys host LL Cool J kicking off proceedings with a mention of the late star.

“We’ve had a death in our family,” he said, offering “a prayer for a woman we loved, for a fallen sister.”

Soul powerhouse Jennifer Hudson provided a fitting musical tribute with a gutsy and emotional rendition of Whitney's biggest hit, 'I Will Always Love You'.

Other musical guests included Chris Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj - whose Exorcist-inspired production would have had Lady Gaga squirming in her seat.

Katy Perry also performed new material, and worked a stunt into her performance that gave the appearance of a technical failure.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl gave a controversial speech slamming the rise of electronic music, indirectly referencing the fact dubstep artist Skrillex sensationally won thre gongs that night.

“The human element of making music is most important. Singing into a microphone, learning to play your instrument... it’s not about being perfect... It’s not about what goes on in a computer, but what goes on in here and what goes on in here (points to head and heart).”

Then again he did participate later in a performance with DJ Deadmau5.

Grammys 2012: Jennifer Hudson sings 'I Will Always Love You' in tribute to Whitney Houston MusicFIX Blog by MusicFIX Feb 13 2012 4:44PM It was the Grammys tearjerker everyone was waiting for - the moment Jennifer Hudson belted out Whitney Houston's version of 'I Will Always Love You', in honour of the pop legend who passed the day before.

Jennifer was reportedly fighting back tears in rehearsals, but managed a perfect performance, complete with the kind of money notes Whitney would be proud of.

She performed the ballad on a bare, dark stage, looking deeply moved throughout the performance, changing the lyrics at the end of the song to "Whitney, we love you".

Whitney presented Jennifer with her first Grammy in 2008, an experience Jennifer said "almost overshadowed getting the Grammy."

'I Will Always Love You' shot straight to Number 1 on the US iTunes charts following Whitney's death on Saturday.
